This golden anniversary, commencing on November 5, 2024, honors the triumph of a grassroots movement that began in 1974. Back then, dedicated citizens rallied together to save Sanibel Island from overdevelopment, leading to a landmark victory and the birth of a city where nature is revered above all.
Our commemoration stretches from November 2024 through the enchanting Luminary Holiday Stroll in December 2025. We invite you to be a part of this 13-month festivity, a unique collaboration between the SanCap Chamber, island businesses, non-profit and faith-based organizations, and our passionate resident groups.
