The Charitable Foundation of the Islands (CFI) doubled its full-time staff in January with the hiring of Kimberly Kouril as director of operations.

Kouril was hired after an extensive search and will work closely with Dolly Farrell, who joined CFI as its inaugural executive director in October 2022. The need for additional staff resulted from CFI’s increasing involvement with the islands’ economic revitalization since Hurricane Ian, ongoing work with island nonprofit organizations and resulting growing administrative needs.

Kouril brings strong, wide-ranging skills to her new position. She has a proven track record of successful fundraising management, experience in community outreach, engagement activities and event planning, as well as varied volunteer experience. She and her family lived on Sanibel for 15 years, during which time she raised two sons and was active in the community.

She was the board president and fundraising chair of the Children’s Education Center of the Islands and The Sanibel School, started Boy Scouts Pack and Troop 1740, and serves as the Boy Scout Council Unit Commissioner for Sanibel Island.

Kouril holds a bachelor’s degree in general studies from the University of Arizona, a master’s in English from Iona College and is a certified yoga instructor.

“We are so fortunate to have found Kim,” Farrell said. “There were many disparate needs to fill. But in the end, we found the perfect candidate who has all the skills we need.”

In her new role, Kouril plans and monitors daily operations, assists with event planning, attends community events, manages financials and assists with database management.

“I am eager to contribute to the continued growth and success of CFI,” Kouril said. “I am passionate about giving back to the community, and being an active member of the CFI team is a perfect fit for me.”
